They are perfect for cutting or for charcuterie and cheese board displays, enhancing the aesthetic and atmosphere of any kitchen or dining room.
Passion for Design
We are passionate about design and believe that functionality and aesthetics are equally important. When we couldn't find the perfect cutting board that was beautiful, functional, and affordable, we decided to create it ourselves. Each of our designs starts on paper and goes through a meticulous prototyping and testing process that takes up to 10 months. We strive to create thoughtful products that elevate your everyday life and enhance the way you live. We appreciate your support and hope you enjoy our products as much as we do.
Wood Board Oiling Guide
Our boards come pre-oiled and ready to use. However, regular oiling every 3 weeks is necessary to maintain their quality and longevity. Before oiling your board, ensure that it is clean and completely dry.
Step 1: Use a few ounces of oil and spread it evenly over the entire board, including the sides and grooves, using a dish towel. Add more oil as needed. Flip the board over and repeat on the other side.
Step 2: Allow the oil to absorb into the wood for several hours or overnight.
Step 3: Wipe off any remaining oil using a dry, clean cloth to prevent a greasy feel.
Each of our designs starts on paper
Every design goes through a rigorous prototyping and testing process that takes up to 10 months. We are proud to be the inventors of the first reversible cutting board with a cracker well on the charcuterie board side. In 2017, we tested over 17 different types of crackers and breads before introducing this innovative feature. We believe that products should not only be functional, but also aesthetically engaging and proudly displayed. Sonder LA is our passion, and we are committed to delivering exceptional products and customer satisfaction.
Wood as a Sustainable Choice
We choose wood over bamboo or plastic for several reasons. Plastic is not sustainable and can easily be damaged. Bamboo may be sustainable due to its quick growth, but it lacks durability. In fact, it is harder than most hardwoods and can dull even the highest quality knife. Wood, on the other hand, is a durable and sustainable choice for beautifully functional kitchen decor. We responsibly source our Teak from sustainable plantations.
Can I wash my board or bread box in the dishwasher?
To ensure the longevity of your wooden cutting boards, it is important to hand wash them with a sponge or rag. Avoid soaking or submerging them in water, and do not use a dishwasher or steam room. Additionally, avoid using cooking oils to condition your board as they can become rancid.
How frequently should I oil my Sonder LA wooden board?
Regular oiling every 3 weeks is crucial to maintaining the longevity of your cutting board. Failing to oil it can result in issues such as warping, cracking, and bacterial growth. Use food-grade mineral oil or beeswax for oiling.
My boards are showing knife marks. What should I do?
Knife marks on your cutting board are actually a good sign, as it means that the board is not harder than your knife. Wood cutting boards provide a durable surface that protects both the knife and countertop. To help blend the knife marks, treat your board with oil.
How do I handle odors or stains on my board?
For odors, clean your board with soap and water and then treat it to a lemon cleanse. For stains, treat your board to a spot clean with an effervescent mixture of lemon and baking soda. Remember to oil your board after these treatments.
Will my board look exactly like the pictures?
Since our wood products come from Mother Nature, each board will have its own unique grain and color. While it may not be identical to the pictures, it will be similar, making it a one-of-a-kind board.
End Grain Durability - Vincent is constructed using end grain, which offers exceptional durability. This construction type can withstand heavy-duty chopping and is highly sought after for its "self-healing" properties. Each knife cut goes between the wood fibers instead of cutting through them, allowing the fibers to close back up after the knife exits. This keeps your knife's edge sharper for longer.
Why Teak Wood?
Teak wood is widely respected for its outstanding moisture resistance and strength, thanks to its natural high oil content. It is an ideal material for cutting boards, as it is hard enough for clean cuts but still soft enough to maintain a knife's edge. With proper care and oiling every 3 weeks, our Teak boards will outlast most items in your kitchen. Rest assured that our Teak wood is responsibly sourced from sustainable plantations.
All-In-One Board
We understand that kitchen space is limited, so we designed our boards to be multipurpose. With two distinct sides, they are perfect for handling all your cooking, serving, and entertaining needs in one place.
Deep Juice Groove
No more messy countertops! Our boards feature a deep juice groove that can hold up to 3.5 oz of liquid. This prevents water, juice, and grease from overflowing during meal prep and serving. The groove is perfect for cutting up fruits, vegetables, and carving meats like brisket, roast, prime rib, and more.
Stability
Our 1.5-inch thick butcher block style board provides stability while cutting, and the integrated finger grips make it easy to lift, flip, or transfer from the kitchen to the table.
Perfect Gift
Each board comes in a beautiful gift box, making it the perfect present for any occasion, such as birthdays, weddings, house
